Anglers’ Guide to Rosemary Beach® Fishing

If water sports like jet skiing or surfing aren’t your idea of a good time on the water, slow things down a bit with some Rosemary Beach fishing. The waters of the surrounding area are the perfect place to find your next catch of the day. From inshore and nearshore fishing in the Gulf of Mexico to fly fishing and deep sea fishing near Rosemary Beach, the angler in your family will have plenty to do.

Nearshore Fishing

Go as far as six to nine miles out into the Gulf of Mexico on a nearshore trip. Most companies provide all the gear, bait, and tackle, and many provide a Florida state fishing license. Nearshore anglers can expect to hook red, white, or black snapper, trigger fish, crevalle jack, mahi-mahi, king mackerel and more.

Inshore Rosemary Beach Fishing

Fish the waters of the Intercoastal Waterway, Choctawhatchee Bay, Santa Rosa Sound, and the Gulf of Mexico. Your catch of the day may include redfish, speckled trout, white trout, flounder, sheepshead, bluefish, or ladyfish.

Fly Fishing

Head out to the many fly fishing spots in the area, include flats, inlets, feeder creeks, bayous, and more in search of redfish, tarpon, speckled trout, Spanish mackerel, pompano and crevalle jack. Other areas like the narrows of Ft. Walton and the mouth of the Choctawhatchee River might be on the itinerary as well.

Shark Fishing

Add some extra exhilaration to your fishing fun and go shark fishing. Sharks are, indeed, fish, and there are some companies in Rosemary Beach and the surrounding area will take you out to sea in search of one. Try Off the Beach Shark Fishing for a trip that fits your needs. If catching a big shark is on your bucket list, go for their “Monster Hunt.” If you’re looking for something more, try their “Iron Man” overnight trip from dusk until dawn. There’s a five-person limit for the Iron Man. No matter what trip you choose, all of the bait and equipment is provided. Make sure you get a nap in if you need to before heading out. All of Off the Beach Shark Fishing’s tours take place at night.

Stinky’s Bait Shack

If you’d rather strike out on your own, stop in at Stinky’s Bait Shack for some live bait, tackle, and other merchandise before you head to the water. Come back later for a drink at the bar. Stinky’s is one of the area’s favorite local bars, with a wide variety of beer and wine to whet your whistle as you share the day’s fish stories.

Kayak Fishing

You don’t need a gas- or electric-powered engine to head out to sea and cast a line. Pack up your fishing gear and head down to the water with your kayak in tow for a different fishing experience. Your arms and shoulders will get a workout, not just from trying to control rod and reel when you catch the big one, but also from paddling the kayak to get to your perfect spot. If you view fishing as a solitary sport, you can rent your own fishing gear and kayak, or you can contact many of the fishing boat charter companies and inquire about kayak fishing excursions.

Family Fishing

Fishing is a sport for all ages and ability levels. Many charter companies offer packages especially for families or parties that include young children. These guided tours supply all the bait, tackle, and equipment you need, and are captained by skippers that can make the day fun and exciting (and maybe a little educational) for children while also making sure everyone is enjoying themselves. Call before you book, as some may have age limitations or special instructions for child safety during the voyage.

Nighttime Fishing

A typical day on the water sets sail in the early hours of the morning when the sun is just coming up and into the day. Several of the fishing charters available to Rosemary Beach community guests offer special after-dark excursions. Expect to come home with a redfish or speckled trout for the next day’s lunch or dinner, but you can never be sure what will be biting.

Deep Sea Fishing Near Rosemary Beach

If you want to go deeper, set sail on a deep sea fishing excursion. Many of the companies that offer boating and fishing charters include a deep sea option. Check to make sure they offer a package and what it includes.
